whoops! maybe he won't resign.....

well if you like seeing the republicans squirm, here's the latest: larry craig's "resignation" was a carefully crafted spiel that slipped by everyone. he announced his INTENT to resign september 30th....it's not a game, set, match after all. and it appears he is pulling on his legal or at least legislative skills (anyone who knows the law or politics knows that the wording of a bill, or a statement, is literally one that should be analyzed word for word). so now larry's taking arlen specter's advice and is going to mount a legal challenge to his plea of guilty. footnote: spector was philly's DA - perhaps one of the greatest - richardson dilworth for those of you over 70 and ed rendell for those of you under 70, would perhaps be the others. a good person to take advice from, and most would agree his analysis of the law is probably correct, that larry pled guilty to a disorderly conduct charge which in effect amounts to very little.

but the legal issue here isn't larry craig's conduct. the real problem is the morality of his choices: an anti-gay, pro-family values, ultra conservative congressman who promotes laws telling the rest of us how to live while he lives the perverted life he wants to live and expects to get an exception to the rules because - well, because he's a U.S. senator. in other words, he thinks he's above the law but wants you to live by his values that only pertain to what he wants for you.

it is this type of thinking, this mentality, this gulf of morality, that makes the republicans extremely vulerable to a major slam in the 2008 elections. not just for president, in fact, they may still have a chance there. but you can be sure a lot of republican congressmen, mayors and other politicians will lose their seats due to the moral bankruptcy of the republicans, spurred on by the gay ghost formerly known as craig.
